Dinner Time

When it comes to meals, every camp is different. At Agawak we eat family style which means every cabin has a table and they share platters of food. Its a great way to bond as a cabin.
In terms of menu we have a lot of variety. There is always a salad bar, P B and J and the main meal of the day. Every Tuesday is grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch. Friday is homemade pizza. Other favourites are quasadillas, fajitas, wings, and the best of all - pasta bar!

The lodge is a crazy, loud and fun place. We sing songs, we chant and cheer and we stand on the tables a lot. Needless to say, meals are never dull...

Peter Pan, an Agawak Production

Last year I spent an excessive amount of my time adapting and directing Annie for the camp production. This year I have had the pleasure to bring Peter Pan to the stage. With only three days before we go on stage I am filled with excitement and anticipation to see the girls perform.
The sets are all painted, the costumes are well underway and we are ALMOST off script. Despite the lack of sleep, I am loving watching it all come together and can not wait until we get to perform for the whole camp.
Here's me painting some mermaid tails for costumes. A lot of glitter was involved.

Activity Sign Up

I think I've mentioned it before, but we have A LOT of activities at camp. Sign up is always fun. It means that the campers get to custom design their schedule and choose new or old activities to learn and/or improve.  Whether it's skiing, arts and crafts or riflery, campers can challenge themselves with an active schedule or chill out with a laid back schedule with activities such as "Hippie Living" and yoga.
An exciting new addition to the program is taking advanced shooters to the local gun range to test their long distance shooting skills. It has been awesome watching the girls going from not being able to shoot to becoming sharp shooters at long ranges.
Camp is always adding and improving activities for the campers and every year brings something new.
Can't wait to see what they bring next year.

Fourth up Norf

4th of July.
Who's the birthday girl of the day? Its U...S-A!

Once again Agawak dominated in the parade through town. Since the start of the summer the girls have been learning the parade dance and put on an amazing show this year. Everyone was impressed with their performance.

Compared to last year the weather was great. Not too hot and not too cold. We had an awesome time in town with the campers, shopping and buying more fudge than we could manage. Then it was time to watch the parade.

If you are after a cultural experience, 4th of July is one of the best. The parade, the people, the flags, the history - it is a head turner and definitely one of the most anticipated events of the summer.

Midnight Movie!

Only my SECOND FAVOURITE activity at camp! Midnight movie!

It is literally just that. We wake the kids at midnight by some form of surprise and we board the yellow school buses to go to the local cinema to watch movies. This year we saw Monsters Inc 2 and Now You See Me.

It was SO MUCH FUN!!

Cabin Cedarwood

This year I was lucky to get my girls again. That is - I was placed in a cabin with the same campers I had last year. I was so excited. My girls are crazy, fun, energetic and passionate young women and I'm so pleased to get to spend another year watching them grow and mature.

To give you an idea of how lucky we are this year; we are in cabin Cedarwood, one of the newer and biggest cabins at camp. And we only have 9 campers! We practically have a ballroom in there!
We spend our nights talking and catching up on everything from the last year, to playing games, singing songs, and just being wild! I wouldn't trade anything for my girls!

One of the best things about having campers more than once is because you get to know them so incredibly well. You know their ins and outs, and you know how to help them solve any issue. If you have new campers, however, you have all the fun of getting to know them and building a strong relationship.

Being a good counselor isn't just about going to your activities, being good at friendship bracelets, and ALWAYS carrying extra EVERYTHING, but about knowing everything there is to know about your campers. Its about being there for them, making them smile when they are sad, knowing when they need to talk and knowing the boundary between friend and counselor. Once you have that worked out everything else just comes naturally.

Staff Comedy Sports

As I've said before, evening programs are always looked forward to. And when they involve staff they are even more highly anticipated. Staff comedy sports is an evening program where ALL the staff get up on stage in Happy Camper Hall and perform theater games including Do Ron Ron, Party Quirks, What are You Doing?, and many more. The more ridiculous we get the better! It's always a fun program, and the kids love it when we get them up on stage. As with most things at camp, the more into it the staff get, the more into it the kids get. And I LOVE the opportunity to be ridiculous!

Activities at Camp

Agawak offers around 40 different activities for the campers. They range from traditional camp activities such as candle making, riflery, archery, arts and crafts and all kinds of sports. We also offer a massive water front including swimming, canoeing and kayaking, sailing, skiing, log rolling, sailing, fishing, and snorkeling. The opportunities are endless here! Below are some photos of some of the fun we have!

Kawaga Social

Socials are great ways to meet people from other camps. And when you go to an all girls camp that means one things. Boys! Kawaga is our brother camp on the next lake over and a Kawaga social is always a fun event. This time we had a neon theme. And let's just say I went all out...

Walmart - the best way to spend your camp check

What else is there to do on a night off? Laundry and Wal-mart! The best fun ever!

Blue and White

Some of you may be familiar with colour wars. Well Agawak has them. Blue and White. Inside the heart of every camper beats a blue or white heart. You are born onto a team, it runs in families, and it is one of the most anticipated and seriously taken activities at camp. You fight for your team. You bleed for your team. You love your team. Blue and White is the best! But you never, ever take it back to the cabin! Here are some pics of us getting into the Blue and White fun!
